And just like that, springtime is right around the corner. We wanted to share some of our favorite local springtime activities, and spots to take time away from our busy schedules and explore Butte County. Whether that is staying in Chico and hiking around Upper and Lower Park or driving out of town to venture out towards Oroville to explore Table Mountain, we’re sharing some places where you can take friends and family to make memories!

Yahi Trail

This is easily one of the most popular trails in Chico’s Bidwell Park. This is a pedestrian-only trail that follows Big Chico Creek. This trail has lots of shade and endless amounts of wildflowers to see! Yahi Trail is 8.8 miles out-and-back, with plenty of entry points along the path, and tons of parking lots, this makes Yahi an ideal route for all skill levels. Check out this hiking trail during summer time and you will find tons of swimming holes along the way to swim in.

The Many Waterfalls Cross-Country Loop

A springtime favorite is the Many Waterfalls Cross-Country Loop which can be found on the North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve. There are up to 14 waterfalls that start flowing after the rainy seasons! If you are up for a good challenge this hike is for you, you may get wet and muddy along the way but it is well worth it in the end.

Lower and Upper Bidwell Park

If you are looking for a low-strenuous walk or hike, take a stroll through the beautiful Upper and Lower Bidwell Park. Lower Bidwell Park is flat and level, with paved paths, making it the perfect spot for a leisurely and family-friendly stroll! Lower park’s trail is roughly 6 miles roundtrip and is covered with Chico’s most beautiful trees.

If you are looking for more of a challenge, then Upper Bidwell Park is the place for you! Upper Park features a range of terrain perfect for exploring on foot! You will find a variety of trails including Monkey Face, Yahi Trail, North Rim Trail, and many more!

Table Mountain

North Table Mountain and South Table Mountain are two prominent hills overlooking the city of Oroville, California. They lie a few miles north of Oroville in Butte County, California. Spring is the most ideal time to hike Table Mountain, it really shows off all the natural beauty of the area with green grass, flower blossoms, and fuller trees. It is best to go hike a day or two after a good downpour. It will be muddier, but the healthy waterfalls will be well worth the muddy hike!
